Instructions:
In the words of: Audrey
I took one nappy, rolled it tight put elastic band round it, then did another 2..and wound the 3 together with elastic band. I repeated this till i had enough to go round the outside of the 20" cake drum board I was building it on.
I placed some gifts, ie, the babywipes and soaps ect in the middle of the drum, folded the cot sheets and covered the gifts then laid the 3 layer nappies round the gifts then made daisy chain big elastic band and bound it all round the outside of nappies to pull in.
Then, I did same for second layer, placing the other items in the middle (saving the fleece blanket for the top). I bound the nappies round middle layer same way. Then, I did top layer in singled rolled nappies and rolled the fleece blanket inside them and put the teddy on top.
The weight of it all kept the layers sitting easily. I then placed the colourful toys and rattles and brush and comb and clippers on the outside.
I used a thick white ribbon to cover the elastic bands bound round outside, securing with double sided tape, then I put a hunter green gingham checked ribbon round the middle to match teddy....and some small green bows stuck on with dab of glue... Then I wrapped it in see through white voile tied at top with elastic band and matching ribbon, and stuck on some small green bows with glue.
I made this cake for my neices first baby, before we knew the sex of the baby. I made it nutural and thought it nice to have the theme round the local RAF Station as they are fighting to keep the station open just now. The teddys were sold to raise funds. This is the first great grand child in our family and I am delighted to become a great auntie, so wanted to give the child something different. The cake was quite big with a lot in it, but you could make it with one layer or 2 and put less in it. The options depend on how much you want to spend really. I got the ribbons bows and voile on Ebay.
