Elegant Baby Shower Ideas
Elegant baby shower decorating ideas on a budget!

Put the balloons and streamers away if you are planning an elegant baby shower. But, don't think you have to spend a fortune either. We'll show you tips and tricks how to throw a sophisticated, classy baby shower without breaking your wallet.

elegant baby shower table setting

When planning a formal baby shower, you will want to make sure everyone has a chair and a place setting. Place Cards are optional, but also an easy and inexpensive way to add a formal feel. This also eliminates that awkward moment when everyone tries to decide where they should sit.

Cloth tablecloths and real plates and glassware would be the first choice. However, if this is not in your budget, don't worry. You can still make it look nice with disposable tableware. Use Heavyweight China-Like Plates that look like real china (without the cleanup). They also make Heavy Duty Silver Plastic Forks, knives & Spoons that look like real silver cutlery. I have seen these at a wedding I attended, and I had no idea they were plastic until I picked one up.

Use sheets of scrapbook paper as place mats at each table setting. They come in a huge variety designs and are the perfect size.

Centerpieces are another must when planning an elegant baby shower. Flowers are a classic and beautiful choice. Candles are another good option. Try floating candles in glass bowl with water. You could also sprinkle a few Pink Crystal Pacifiers or Blue Crystal Pacifiers on the tables.

Fold your napkins and place them on top of the plates at each place setting. Napkin rings also add an elegant touch. Crystal pacifiers can also be used as napkin rings. Or, tie some pretty ribbon around the napkins instead of napkin rings.

I love this idea of putting a fresh flower at each place setting. This is a great way to make each guest feel extra special. They also make the tables look gorgeous.

Besides the baby shower table decorations, keep the rest of your decorations simple. Sometimes less is more when planning a sophisticated baby shower. Avoid the typical party decorations like streamers, balloons, or confetti. Instead use fresh flowers and candles.

Play soft music in the background.

Make sure the room is at a comfortable temperature.

Food and Drink:

If you are having a formal meal, I would highly recommend using a catering company. If you want to do it yourself, consider serving brunch or hors d'oeuvres. See our baby shower menu ideas for sample menus and recipes.

Greet the guests with champagne or sparkling cider as they arrive.

Another elegant option is to have a tea party. Serve a variety of teas and fancy desserts or pastries.

Nostalgia Electrics 3-Tier Chocolate Fondue Fountain
Chocolate Fondue Fountain- give your baby shower the feeling of a "catered affair" by providing your guests with fresh strawberries, marshmallows, pretzels, and other goodies to dip into the flowing chocolate.

Elegant Baby Shower- Games and Activities

You can still have games, but I would steer towards pen and paper games like Baby Shower Trivia or Baby Shower Bingo

Advice cards would also be a good choice. Give each guest a piece of paper or note card and have them write down their best parenting advice or other words of wisdom for the mom-to-be. Put them all in a pretty binder or album and the mom-to-be will have a keepsake from all her friends and family.

Elegant Baby Shower Favor Ideas

Don't forget to send your guests off with a little something to say thanks for attending the shower. Place one favor at each place setting, put them in a basket, or arrange them on a table. Here are a few ideas:

How to set a formal table

1. If using placemats, put one at each setting centered in front of the chair, about 1 inch from edge of table.

2. Set dinner plates on top of the placemat.

3. Silverware- Forks go on the left side of the plate. Dinner fork on the inside left, salad fork on the outside left. Knife and spoon go on the right side of the plate, knife on the inside.

4. Water glass (and wine glass if serving wine) goes above the plates towards the right side.

5. Lay the napkins on top of your dinner plates, folded any way you like.
