Diaper Carriage

by Tasha
(Montana)

I have to say that I was so happy when I received this submission from Tasha! She made an adorable baby carriage using diapers and other baby supplies that a new mom will need, like wipes, baby wash and receiving blankets. So creative and a nice change from the usual diaper cake. She was kind enough to share how she made this diaper carriage with us too, here are the instructions in her own words:

"This one was a little more of a challenge to make. First, I made the wheels and did it by spiral rolling diapers together and then rubber banding them and covering the bands with ribbon. Then added flower stems as "hub caps".

I took a package of baby wipes (not the ones in the hard plastic containers, the refill type ones) and placed a rubber band around it. Then, I started to stuff rolled diapers around it.

The top was the hardest, I took a piece of poster board folded (for added sturdiness) and cut to the size I needed. Between the fold I glued some lace and then stretched a piece of thin elastic from one end to the other. I curved it and attached it under the rubber band that the rolled diapers on the base were held to. Then I sort of stuffed and spread the diapers out under the elastic.

I stuffed a small bottle of J&J baby wash and lotion on each side of the wipes, added a recieving blanket to cover the wipes (I actually advise doing this before you rubber band the diapers around the container of wipes--just a tip from learning as I went).

I attached the wheels to the cake board with soft medical tape and placed the carriage on top of the wheels. I decorated it with ribbon, pacifiers, wash cloth butterflies and added a stuffed bear. It was a lot of trial and error, but turned out pretty cute. This one is for another shower I have in 2 weeks."

Thanks for sharing this cute and creative diaper carriage with us Tasha! I am sure it will be a big hit at the baby shower. I am going to have to give one of these a try myself, love it!

Requests for Diaper instructions NEW
by: Tasha

Thanks to everyone who has shown interest in this carriage. I don't come to this page often enough. I am sorry that the instructions aren't clear enough. When I posted this it was my 1st attempt at making it so trying to explain what I did was very difficult since there was so much trial and error. I don't even make them quite the same way now. Now that I sell them, I have found ways to improve upon them, add more baby items, and make them more sturdy for shipping. You can always check out my Facebook page "Tasha's Diapered Designs" and see the newer styles and all my other creations and contact me there if need be.

Need instructions for the baby carriage diaper cake that are more detailed...please.
by: Paula Marie

Is there any way to get directions that are more detailed like how many diapers does it take (how much did it cost you to make?) and lastly, have you ever thought about doing it for others and charge a small fee for your time? I would like to be client if you do that...seriously. Paula

Size
by: Tasha

Hey Nancy, I am the maker of this cake. I honestly never measured it, but if I had to guess I would say 12" long (front wheels to back) 8" wide, and about 12" tall.

Glad you all like it

This cute carriage is actually mine. I am so flattered by all of your comments. This was my 1st attempt at doing this (I also have a cake that was a 1st attempt on this site as well) and needless to say I have come I really long way in my creativity in making these. I will have to post some more of them if I get a chance. You can also see them on my facebook page "Tasha's Diapered Designs."

What is the size of this when it is all put together? This is precious. I want to try to make this, but sometimes it is hard to visualize the size. Can anyone that has made one, respond to this question?

Daddy's Helper
by: Rosanne

I'm going to make this diaper carriage for my daughter-in-law. I also thought why not include the father. I thought the utility belt was a great idea. Men wouldn't mind helping out if they had something macho to wear. Thanks for all the help.
