Creative Baby Shower Decorating Ideas and Trends

Are you looking for cute baby shower decoration ideas? Here you will find some of the latest baby shower decorating ideas and trends to help you plan a modern and one of a kind baby shower.

The baby shower decor can set the tone of the party and add an element of fun. I LOVE planning the decorations for a party, and it's the diy projects and extra little touches that make a shower memorable to me. You don't have to spend a fortune to make your party shine either. Follow our advice below, and you will be on your way to throwing a fabulous shower!

Baby Shower Decoration Ideas: Have a vision

Before you run out to the nearest party store and start buying decorations, have an idea what you want to do. I always recommend to have a theme. Having a baby shower theme will help pull all your decorations together and get your creativity flowing.

If you don't want to use a "theme" for your shower, there are lots of other ways to to pull the decorations together and make a statement. For example:

Pick a pattern and use it throughout the shower, like bold stripes, modern chevron, or classic polka dots. Or how about plaid, gingham, or paisley? Go wild with funky animal prints or keep it classy with a Damask pattern. You can even mix a few complimenting patterns or use one pattern with a solid color.

Pick a color palette and stick to it. Make sure to use complimenting colors and keep the season and your theme in mind when choosing your colors. I usually stick with two or three colors: a main color, a lighter color, and an accent color, but there are always exceptions. Don't limit yourself to the typical shades of baby pink and blue. Try some bold or unique color combinations like the ones below.

For a girl try:

  • hot pink or fuchsia with white or powder pink, silver
  • pink and chocolate brown
  • peach, coral and ivory
  • lavender with grey or silver

For a boy try:

  • navy blue and bright yellow
  • teal blue and chocolate brown
  • chocolate brown and lime green
  • red and grey

Choose a style- ex: glam, vintage, modern, whimsical, or classic, etc.

  • glam- this is one of my favorite styles and is geared more towards mommy than baby, this is her party too, right? Think upscale and ultra feminine at the same time. Decorate with sparkle, bling, marabou, feathers, ribbon, beads, crystal, flowers or glitter. See our glam spring shower for more ideas.

  • vintage- vintage or shabby chic parties are a popular trend right now. Vintage showers are great because you can find decorating props and supplies at thrift stores and garage sales. Or, just go through your own home (or your family and friends) and find old and unique pieces to re-use. See our vintage baby shower here.

  • modern- a modern shower usually uses bold or unique colors palettes and/or geometric patterns or shapes. Everything is organized and coordinates well together.

  • whimsical- one of the definitions for the word whimsical is "playfully quaint or fanciful, especially in an appealing and amusing way", which describes this style perfectly. Think handmade and dreamy or quirky and fun. See our Dr. Seuss shower for an example.

Baby Shower Decoration Ideas and Tips

Keep your budget in mind when planning the decorations. If you can't afford to go all out, focus on one main table or area.

Order any party supplies and decorations at least 3-4 weeks before the shower. You never know when something might be on back order or take longer than expected to arrive. This has happened to me, and it wasn't fun!

Make any handmade decorations well in advance, especially if you haven't made them before. Sure it might look easy to make, but you don't want to wait until the last minute and have something not turn out the way you planned.

If you are having the shower at your home, do as much decorating as you can the day before. If this isn't an option, have everything prepped and ready to set up as quickly as possible. I am still working on this one :)

Give yourself several hours to set up everything and take pictures of the decor before the guest arrive. You want to have some pictures of all your hard work, so you can come back and share it with us, right? OK, seriously, once the guests arrive, you will be too busy to take photos and you will want some mementos for the guest of honor.

There are also other ways to set the mood of the party besides your decorations. Play some soft music in the background, light a few scented candles, and make sure the room is at a comfortable temperature.

Good luck with your baby shower decor! Please come back and share your photos here.
