Baby Shower Cupcake Ideas
Cupcakes are one of my favorite desserts! There are endless flavor combinations and decorating possibilities and each guest gets their own personal little cake.
They are easy to make (just use your favorite cake mix out of the box) and easy to serve (no cutting or plating required). Your guests can just grab one and enjoy.
Put them on a cupcake stand or tray and they also make a beautiful, edible centerpiece.
Below are some of my favorite baby shower cupcake ideas that I have found around the web, and also some of my own cupcakes that I have made for various showers and parties
Baby Rattle Cupcakes
I found these adorable cupcakes over at Betty Crocker.com
1 box cake mix (any flavor)
water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
1 container (1lb) frosting
decorating icing to match your color sceme
Candy sprinkles and decors, if desired
8 yards ribbon
24 paper lollipop sticks
24 small gumdrops
1. Place paper baking cups in 24 regular sized cupcake cups. Make and bake cupcakes as directed on box. Cool 10 minutes, remove from pan. Cool completely, about 30 minutes.
2. Frost cupcakes with frosting. Pipe designs on cupcakes using colored icing. Decorate with candy sprinkles.
3. With a toothpick, poke a hole in one side of each cupcake (this makes it easier to stick the lollipop stick in). Tie a piece of ribbon in a bow in the middle of each lollipop stick. Add gumdrops to one end of stick. Insert other ends of sticks into sides of cupcakes, just below frosting, to form rattles.
If you would like even more detailed instructions, you can watch a video how to make these rattle cupcakes at Bettycrocker.com.
These adorable cupcakes are by Wilton. These are definitely not for the beginner, but if you are familiar with using fondant or brave enough to give it a try, you can find instructions at Wilton.com.
Cute and Contented Cupcakes
These baby shower cupcakes are also by Wilton. They are relatively easy
to make and super cute. For full instructions visit Wilton.com.
Thing 1 and Thing 2 Cupcakes
Just bake your favorite cupcakes (we used red velvet) in red cupcake liners. Frost with icing. Cut out some circles and write Thing 1 and Thing 2 on them. Attach to the cupcake liners with a dab of hot glue. (We tried using double sided tape, but they kept falling off). Last, add some blue cotton candy for the hair. Make sure to add the cotton candy at the last minute because it will melt within an hour or so.
Cat in the Hat Cupcakes
We also made these for the Dr. Seuss baby shower. Instead of making a cake in the shape of his hat, we made a cupcake display instead. Bake nine cupcakes in red liners and frost with red icing, and make eleven cupcakes in white liners and frost with white icing. Alternate rows of cupcakes to make the stripes in his hat. Add a two extras to the bottom row to make the rim of his hat, tilting them slightly down.
Seasonal Baby Shower Cupcake Ideas:
Backyard Bugs Cupcakes
These cupcakes are great for a spring time baby shower. We made these using some bug shaped cupcake pans. Just pour your favorite cake mix into the cupcake pans, bake, and cool completely. Then decorate with different colored icing and sparkly sprinkles.
These cupcakes are perfect for a summer baby shower, beach theme shower or a pool party. See our beach baby shower theme for complete instructions how to make these.
Girl baby shower cupcake ideas:
Make some cupcakes using your favorite cake mix, we used a yellow cake mix for ours. After they have cooled, frost with icing or whipped topping of your choice. Sprinkle with sparkly pink sprinkles and top with a mini tiara or wand (cut the wands down to your desired height). We found these at Party City. Arrange them on a cupcake stand.
See our princess baby shower theme for more princess baby shower ideas.
Brownie mix can also be used to make cupcakes, and who doesn't love a moist and chewy brownie? The brownie bites pictured above where made with a mini cupcake pan. We also topped them with icing and wrapped them with cupcake wrappers to dress them up.
fun baby shower cupcake ideas:
These rainbow cupcakes would be great for baby shower where the gender is unknown or for a gender reveal shower. I used store bought cupcakes with white icing and added the rainbow topper. The rainbow is actually a strip of Airheads sourbelt rainbow candy (got that idea from Cupcake Mania). I cut the strips in pieces, folded them over and stuck them into the icing.
Then, I placed them on pastry pedestals with skittles hot glued to ribbon and taped around the edge. I put styrofoam in a truffle bowl and lined it with candy dot paper, then stuck the pedestals into the styrofoam.
I made these cupcakes for a jungle theme baby shower. Make cupcakes of your choice and let them cool completely. Then dye your icing green and use a grass tip on your icing bag to pipe the icing on the cupcakes. Top with a plastic jungle animal and wrap with Funfari cupcake wrappers.
Unique baby shower cupcake ideas:
Giant Cupcake Cake
Make a giant cupcake cake. Just fill the Large Cupcake Cake Pan with any cake mix, bake, and decorate to match your baby shower theme.
Hope you enjoyed our baby shower cupcake ideas! If you don't have time to make your own cupcakes, you can always buy store bought cupcakes and dress them up with cupcake toppers, wrappers, sprinkles, or cupcake picks.
Turn your cupcakes into an edible centerpiece by displaying them on a cupcake stand, pedestal, or a box wrapped with pretty wrapping paper.
